Motorcycle Grips: ⅞-Inch vs 1-Inch Fit Guide

The right grip starts with fit. Handlebar diameter alone does not tell you whether a grip assembly will work with your throttle.

Check these four things

  1. Handlebar size: Verify the diameter at the grip mounting area using your bike documentation or a measurement. Measure the bar, not the outside of the rubber grip.
  2. Throttle arrangement: Determine whether the product is a rubber replacement, a grip with a throttle sleeve, or an assembly designed for electronic throttle. Match the manufacturer’s stated application.
  3. Usable length: Compare the specified grip length with available space between the controls and bar end.
  4. Bar-end equipment: Check compatibility with weights, mirrors, guards and heated-grip wiring.

Before ordering

Enter your exact year, make and model in the retailer’s fitment checker, then read the manufacturer’s application list and installation instructions. A 1-inch grip made for one throttle system is not automatically suitable for every 1-inch motorcycle bar.

Before riding

Follow the product’s installation instructions. Confirm that the throttle moves freely and returns correctly with the handlebars turned in both directions. Have a qualified technician resolve any binding before riding.
